SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son warns AI superintelligence could be super dangerous
At the Science and Technology in Society forum in Kyoto, Japan, on Sunday, SoftBank Group Chief Masayoshi Son, a strong AI advocate, expressed rare caution about AI safety risks. He warned that superintelligence in the wrong hands could become "super dangerous" and urged countries to work together to control powerful AI models. He spoke alongside White House advisor Michael Kratsios, who announced a U.S.-led 17-country initiative to use AI for scientific research. Son, who has invested nearly $65 billion in OpenAI, also predicted AI would account for 20% of global GDP by 2040.
