Ukrainian soldier Yevheniy serves in Donetsk while his wife Alina and daughter Snizhana live in Boryspil, separated by war

In Ukraine, the war has separated hundreds of thousands of families. Yevheniy, a 35-year-old soldier, serves with the 43rd Separate Artillery Brigade in the contested Donetsk region. His wife Alina, 32, lives in Boryspil, southeast of Kyiv, with their two-year-old daughter Snizhana and Alina's 11-year-old daughter. Snizhana was born in early 2024 but rarely sees her father due to his unpredictable and short home leaves. Meanwhile, Russia's escalating missile and drone attacks have made life dangerous even far from the front.
