In the UK, the AI and robotics company Humanoid has successfully completed a $152 million Series A financing round, marking a significant milestone in the robotics industry. This funding round, which is noted as the largest-ever Series A for a humanoid-first robotics company in Europe, has brought the company's total funding to $270 million. The financing was led by Prime Movers Lab, a venture capital firm that specializes in breakthrough scientific start-ups, and included participation from notable investors such as Schaeffler, Bosch, Fubon Financial Holding Venture Capital, and Aglaé Ventures, the investment firm of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault.
Founded in 2024, Humanoid focuses on developing humanoid robots designed for industrial applications, emphasizing commercial viability, scalability, and safety. The company currently employs over 250 people across its offices in London, Boston, Vancouver, and San Diego. The funding will be utilized to accelerate the company's growth, enhance commercial deployments, and further develop its proprietary AI platform, KinetIQ, along with its wheeled robots. Humanoid's vision is to transform humanoid robots from innovative technology into everyday tools used in various industrial settings.
The company has established partnerships with several Fortune 500 companies, including SAP, Nvidia, Bosch, and Siemens. Recently, Humanoid secured a significant agreement with Schaeffler for the large-scale deployment of thousands of humanoid robots in manufacturing environments. Klaus Rosenfeld, CEO of Schaeffler, expressed confidence in the collaboration, stating that combining their industrial expertise with Humanoid's advanced AI platform represents a promising frontier in technology. Additionally, Bosch's CTO Mathias Pillin indicated that Bosch would serve as Humanoid's contract manufacturing partner, providing strategic consulting and technical expertise in hardware design, production, and supply chain management.
The recent funding and partnerships highlight the growing interest and investment in robotics, particularly in the humanoid sector. As companies like Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor Group make significant moves in robotics, the landscape is evolving rapidly. Humanoid's advancements in humanoid robotics are expected to play a crucial role in reshaping how commercial and industrial work is conducted in the coming decade, with industry experts predicting a consolidation around a few leading companies in the US, Europe, and China.
