Turkey expands nuclear partnership with Russia for new power plants

Turkey is enhancing its nuclear cooperation with Russia, as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced plans to build more power plants. This announcement was made during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan. The Akkuyu nuclear power station, nearing completion, is expected to provide around 10% of Turkey's electricity. Erdogan highlighted the importance of this project in strengthening bilateral relations, which have grown significantly amid Turkey's reliance on energy imports.
