Australia charges man with spying for Russia after he joined Ukrainian army

In Australia, a 27-year-old dual Russian-Australian citizen, Vladimir Teslov, was charged on Friday with attempting to engage in intentional foreign interference. Police allege that after military-style training in Russia in October 2024, he joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces in May 2025 and tried to pass information about Ukrainian military personnel and locations to individuals he believed were linked to Russian intelligence. He was arrested in Brisbane on Thursday and refused bail. The offence carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Authorities said there was no threat to Australia, and the investigation is ongoing.
