IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva urges countries to cut debt and regulate AI

In a speech in Singapore on Wednesday, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva urged countries, both rich and poor, to take faster action to cut debt and counter inequality. She warned that global public debt could exceed 100% of GDP before 2030 and that the AI boom, along with wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, is creating economic challenges. Georgieva called for spending discipline and tighter monetary policy, while also highlighting the need for AI regulation and worker training. The IMF and World Bank annual meetings are scheduled for next week in Bangkok, Thailand.
