Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt Accuses Former Special Counsel Jack Smith of Perjury in Hawks-Hawkeyes Mix-Up

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Monday, Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt accused former special counsel Jack Smith of perjury, claiming Smith had attended an Atlanta Hawks game to meet with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Smith denied the claim, explaining he had actually attended a University of Maryland women's basketball game against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Senator Amy Klobuchar noted the apparent mix-up between the Hawks and the Hawkeyes. Reports later revealed that Schmitt's team had been warned the text messages were unvetted. Schmitt expressed no regret, saying Smith had lied to Congress before.
