Afghan cyclist Fariba Hashimi wins Asian Games silver medal after fleeing Taliban rule

Afghan cyclist Fariba Hashimi, who fled her country after the Taliban's return to power in 2021, won a silver medal in the women's road race at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, on Tuesday. The 23-year-old, who previously disguised herself as a man to train safely, finished behind China's Guo Li. Hashimi, now based in Italy, also placed seventh in the time trial. She hopes her achievement will inspire other Afghan women to follow their dreams despite oppression.
