German startup Focused Energy plans world's first commercial laser fusion power station at former nuclear plant in Biblis

In Germany, the decommissioned Biblis nuclear power station is being repurposed for laser fusion. Focused Energy, a Darmstadt-based startup, plans to build a demonstrator within five years, a pilot plant within ten, and a commercial power station within fifteen. The company has raised $240 million and received €60 million from RWE, the site's owner. The pilot plant is expected to generate nearly one gigawatt, powering two million homes. Technical challenges remain, but the project aligns with Germany's and the EU's clean energy goals.
