Cristian Volpato fined for cocaine use after positive test

In July 2023, Cristian Volpato, a midfielder for Sassuolo, was fined about $520 after testing positive for cocaine while pulled over by police in Sydney. He maintained his innocence, stating he never knowingly ingested the substance, and later tested negative in Italy. Volpato had recently switched his allegiance from Italy to Australia for the World Cup.
