The Independent marks 40 years with anniversary events and editorials

The Independent, a British news organisation, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Founded in 1986, it was known for being free from political and proprietor influence. In 2016, it stopped printing a physical newspaper and moved entirely online. The anniversary programme, themed "Independent then. Independent now. Celebrating 40 years of free thinking," includes editorials, guest contributions, a film season at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and an exhibition at Outernet London. Editor-in-Chief Geordie Greig highlighted the company's innovation and its 13 billion views across platforms last year.
