West Nile virus infections surge in Greece as authorities take action

In Greece, the West Nile virus has spread widely, with 157 confirmed cases reported this year. Health authorities are responding to the outbreak by intensifying mosquito control efforts, particularly in Eastern Attica, where the virus has severely impacted local populations. As of now, 42 patients are hospitalized, including 23 in intensive care. The National Public Health Organisation estimates that many more infections remain undetected, highlighting the need for public awareness and personal protection against mosquito bites.
